Trying to activate Windows 7 through the phone

I've been using an un-activated version of windows 7 over the last 3 months due to the product key not working. I have tried activating via the phone but it does not seem to work and it says that I maybe a victim of piracy. My friend lent me the disc and code but it will still not work.

I'm running Windows 7 Professional.

Sorry if this sounds stupid but I'm not good with operating systems and am not sure how to make this work.

Your friend lent it to you? Each copy of Windows is only good for one PC; if this person already used the disc to install Windows on another PC, you cannot use that same license again on another system. It won't activate if that license is already being used elsewhere.

If this is the case, you need to go buy your own copy of Windows instead of trying to illegally activate one license a second time.

You will need to work with Microsoft. In particular, if the [unused] code your friend gave you ("lending" would indeed be piracy, especially if your friend is still using it) is an upgrade version, it cannot be used to activate a fresh installation. Also, it may have been an OEM version, and once installed, was bound to the original motherboard, so it cannot be used on another.

You need to buy a new Windows 7 key to use on your computer, you can't use your friends code.
