i am using an Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 motherboard
looking to get 8 gigs of ram (2x4) as the last set i had we can just say had an unfortunate accident with my dog as i was cleaning the motherboard from dust, they were an old set and i was looking to buy a new one anyway so it doesn't matter

it says that the corsair dominator 2x4 CMP8GX3M2A1600C9 model is not compatible with my motherboard on the corsair compatibility site
would they work if i got them or should i just go look for something else

that model is the only one available from the dominator series, so i can't choose another dominator model

Most of brand name RAM will compatible, even they are not in the compatible list. Because the MB manufacturer does the test then put into the list, but how can they test all the memory then add to the compatible list? As long as the RAM can fit the MB RAM specifications, which is DDR3 2133(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz ECC, Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory, then you are fine.

They will work fine. The vendor list is just a tested list of RAM. As long as the speeds and timing of the RAM are within the range of the mobo settings, then you won't have any issues.
