Hi:

My PC was working fine until a few days ago, now when I shut down my PC I see Windows shutting down on the screen for a few seconds until I get no video signal but the PC never turns off. The fan is still spinning (connected directly to the power supply), one of the the case leds is on and I can still open and close the optical drive tray.

I reconnected all the internal and external cables but it did not work. I am not sure if the problem are the components or the OS.

One thing I have noticed is that the LED under the power button (which was blue and lighted up when the PC was on) now remains off or very lightly colored green, maybe a problem with the case?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Specs:

CPU: Intel i5 3470
MB: Asrock Z77 Pro3
GPU: Sapphire R9 280X
Memory: 2x4 GB Kingston HyperX
HDD: WD Blue 1TB
PS: Antec VP 550W
Optical: LG 24X DVD Burner
Case: NZXT Gamma
SO: Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit

In Windows 8.1 and 8 the windows shutss off your display but the cpu take 2-3 mins more to shut down I use windows 8.1 pro on
my pc and the problem is same so dont worry it will switch off automatically after switching off your display :D
In response to ur edit :- It can be due to power supply or any other things but never faced this kind of problem :D

I think its some dirt/ fan issue or it can be heating issues check these first
1. Fan rotating properly
2. No overheating of gpu and cpu
3. dirt / dust on fan or psu :D

Thanks again for responding! The case and CPU fans are clean and rotating properly, the temperatures are: MB 34, CPU 37, GPU 36.

Now my PC sometimes when it enters sleep mode does not wake up, same as when I try to shut down the system, the chassis led is on, the fans are spinning and I get no video signal, but the PC becomes unresponsive, I have to shut it down by pressing and holding for a few seconds the power button.

I think maybe the problem is in the power supply or in the MB. Considering the PC works (I can play games fine) could it be the MB? Is there any program or other way to know if the MB is defective or what else could be causing this problem? Maybe the case?

The display goes off and after several minutes (I guess the time it takes to put the PC to sleep) it becomes unresponsive and I have no video signal (as if it were off but with the lights on and the fans spinning).

I will do a full rebuild one of these days to see if the problem goes away.

Thanks a lot for all the responses, I really appreciate it!
