Hi all,

Apologies if this has already been posted. I had a look at the tom's HARDWARE installation for this but I could not find a few answers.

I'm basically building my first ever PC and I have the Enermax ELC240. I have two questions:

1) Do I need to install the heat sink that comes with the processor?
2) IF not, do I need to apply some thermal paste to the process before I install the Enermax ELC240? According to the guide, the Enermax ELC240 comes with pre-applied paste. Therefore I'm a bit confused.

Thanks again, and if you have any tips (mount the radiator before the motherboard etc then feel free to share!).

Thanks again!

To be extra safe you can install the stock heat sink to make sure that the cpu, mobo, or some other vital part isn't DOA since it's easier to set up and remove. If you do that make sure to clean the paste off of the cpu before attaching the liquid cooler.

Since the liquid cooler comes with pre-applied paste, then no you don't have to apply any, but if it doesn't then YES you do

TIPS: Make sure the cooler has a good amount of pressure on the cpu. When I did my first AIO liquid cooler I didn't put enough pressure so my cpu temp was really high. Also it helps if you have another person there to help you hold the rad while you install it. You can install the rad before the cpu block but it's much easier to place the rad properly after you...

Thanks a lot Bob. However, could you explain in simple terms what you mean by DOA? Also what's a stock heat sink? Is that the one that comes with the processor?

Thanks for the tips too!

DOA means dead on arrival. Basically the part was messed up or broken before you even touched it.

And yes stock means the one that it comes with standard.
