BF4 low GPU usage and high CPU usage bad frames

Specs:
Gigabyte GTX 660 2GB OC edition
A8-6600k @ 3.8Ghz
8GB RAM
Latest Nvidia drivers
900p res

When I play the GPU is always in the 50%'s and the CPU always at around 70-90%. I went to the computer store and they said there is no bottleneck with the CPU nor GPU because the GPU isn't powerful enough and the 4 cores should be good. Yet when I play BF4 or any game for that matter even on low and res to 75% I'm still getting 45fps. Changing settings doesn't help. So what's the deal if it's not a bottleneck, so they say? Also would an x4 760k be a better processor if I upgrade?

Your CPU is being used as a physics processor. You should be able to change this in your Nvidia Control Panel. Open it up and under "Configure Surround, PhysX", set the option in PhysX settings to your GPU instead of CPU. It's best to leave it set to "Auto" letting the system decide based on it's needs. It's fine using the CPU, allowing your GPU to focus on other things. You're system is working fine in other words.

I will test this out and get back to you. :D I uninstalled it a while back. How do I get it back? Reinstall the driver?

I'm not sure what you're trying to get here. You should leave the option set to auto. These percentages you're talking about, is that the work load on your GPU? If so, why would you want it to have to work at full load? In games like BF4, your card should be getting you an avg, of about 48 FPS under Max settings, you will not get better than that.
"It starts off super smooth at that 70-80% mark then drops to the 50-60's on the right side of the picture." I don't know what it is or what these numbers represent. What kind of frame rate is "bad"?

I play on medium/high 70fps but it drops when the GPU usgae drops. and if it's at full load doesn't that mean you get the best performance out of the card?

Ok, I assumed you had an issue with the fact that your cpu was being used so much. So, your GPU is throttling back at a certain point. What is the GPU temp when this is happening? What kind of PSU are you using?

Playing games it's around 60-70C. And the power supply is a crappy Chiefmax. Would upgrading it (I'm going to anyways) Increase the GPU usage?

I'm sad now. It's in the 50%'s now and it still runs bad. Would overclocking my GPU help? I've overclocked before and it maintained temps. Do you know why it was up in the 70's and 80's then it just stopped and dropped into the 50%'s? :(

It could be the problem. It may not be able to provide the wattage needed by the card for under heavy load. It's the only thing that makes sense. Your temps are good. It's not being caused by your CPU. I've had crappy power supplies before and had an awful time with my graphics cards. I kept replacing/upgrading them thinking it was just crappy cards. When my Power Supply quit I bought a good one and just like that, all my problems were gone. And it's worth upgrading anyway as a poor quality PSU can cause damage to your computer.

So upgrading the power supply would give the graphics card more voltage and raising the GPU usage and overall my FPS? I just want to make sure before I go and blow 80.00 on a new PSU.

I am skeptical that the problems are PSU related. What are the specs of your PSU?

When the fps drops, does it go back up on it's own? If so, how long does that take?

You could also run benchmarks and compare results to others with similar setups. BF4 can sometimes be CPU intensive so it could be related to what's going on in the game and not your GPU.

When the frames drop it's when there is explosives or a lot of players firing weapons in my vicinity. Usually when I turn around it takes about 15 seconds for it to go back up. But if my GPU usage was at 70%-80% it wouldn't get fps drops unless 5 people where chucking c4 and grenades all over the map. And when the frame-rate does drop, so does the GPU usage and usually stays there until the end-round screen where my GPU usage hits the 90%'s.

And my PSU specs are:
Chiefmax ATX 12V 2.3 Version power

Also I can't overclock my CPU because I upgraded a Pavillion desktop - and it is locked.

Honestly that sounds like a CPU bottleneck to me. Multiplayer BF4 can often times be CPU bottle necked. A good way to test is to play single player for awhile to see if you get the same fps drops, since single player is much less CPU intensive.

Another way to verify if it is CPU bottleneck or not, is to have the Task Manager open while playing. Check what the cpu usage is when the fps drops.

I don't know much about AMD processors these days, so I have no idea how good your CPU is.

When I play BF4 the CPU usage is full blown 90-100%. I don't get frame drops in Singleplayer. Is there a way I can run it better without overclocking or am I screwed?
