SSD and HD, both or just one?

So for my first build (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3vZcz) I have been planning to put a 120 gig SSD, and a 2 TB drive. I have 2 hard drives in my Dell (250 and 160). I'm wondering though, if I don't decide to buy the 2 TB, how hard will it be to partition it later for main use? I'm not that experienced in partitioning drives yet.

Solution

I won't say that its an overkill...

So you are going to use the SSD as your boot drive and for data you want to use your old Dell drives and when or if you add a 2TB later you want to know if you can partition it? The answer is yes, when or if you add the 2TB later you can set the partition any size you want and format them without issue.

Good point there, it is alot easier to partition a drive in the beginning. I forgot to mention it in my post, but the SSD was for hard drive use :p. I think I'll just stick with both of them, I've done a ton of research for this computer. I am a little hesitant to eventually spend 1300 bucks on it, but I know it'll be a solid build and kick some ass!

you will use partitioning only when you use the HDD as a main OS drive or something..

My recommendation will be to use the SSD completely as the OS partition.. then the HDD for normal files and games.. You can partition later as well using the inbuilt partition manager built into windows.. Partitioning is not a problem, however, its always safe to keep a backup of the files, hence, suggest you to use two 1TB drives.. you won't have the need to partition now..

I would buy two, but to be honest I'm trying to stay on budget (I originally had a budget in mind of 1100 for this) and it's quickly transformed to 1300 :p.. And I'm suprised no one has told me the 760 4 gig edition was overkill

You know that EVGA GeForce GTX 760 4GB Dual FTW ACX Video Card is a bit of an over kill, and I don't know that you need a 620w PS for it. ;^D

Lol :D, I like overkill ;)! And I think the 620 watt is enough for now, Until I sli them (lol never will happen :D)

You could go for EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 Dual Superclocked 2GB

I won't say that its an overkill.. I say its just fine.. I got a HD7950 myself and I run games pretty good and its future proof for the next two years I hope..

I say its all just fine.. to keep on budget, do you really need 2TB?? do you use that much of memory?? 1TB will be enough I guess.. I personally got just 160gb hdd.. and a 120GB SSD.... just saying...

spend only as much as you need...
