The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors

So I received my new laptop yesterday, (Lenovo Y410p i5 version) and I was really disappointed. The first time I turned it on it took about an hour to set up because of constant freezes and a extremely long login time. Once I logged in, it took me to a screen with my personalized color (it was blank). After waiting for about another hour, I decided to force shut down. When I turned it on, it took about 30 minutes to get in. Finally it started to speed up! But after 15 minutes, it started to constantly freeze again, which happened about every 20 seconds and each freeze was about 4-5 minutes long..... I posted yesterday about this and someone had told me it had to do with my hard drive and that I should call the company. But I didn't at that time because it was long after work hours for Lenovo.

I wasn't completely sure if it was the hard drive or not, or maybe something had gone wrong when I had first turned it on, so I decided to do onekey recovery(a hidden button on the laptop where I can turn it back to factory settings) So as it was resetting, the computer said that a file was missing and asked if I wanted to restart the laptop. So I did and once I did, this showed up "The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors."
File: \windows\system32\windows.efi
Error Code: 0xc000000f

Andddd yea............
It gives me the options to "Press Enter to try again"
"Press F8 for Startup settings"
or
"Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings"

The first two options don't work, it only results in my screen turning black for half a seconds and bringing it back to the error screen. The only option that actually brings me somewhere is the third one. Could someone tell me wtf happened?

I don't think I'm able to call tech support from lenovo because i'm under 18, and my parents don't get home until after lenovo's work hours....

If this laptop is NEW, just do an RMA on it (get your money back if possible). Sure there are options to fix that, buying a new and better HDD and just installing Windows yourself comes to mind but you shouldn't have to and you should be compensated given that this is a new product.

I did that with an Acer I bought my GF that crashed out of the box. I was going to buy a larger HDD anyway so I went out and bought one. I worked at a company where I had access to TONS of licences for Windows so I went with Win 7 Pro over the home edition. It was an easy option for me because I had easy access to what I needed. If you don't you shouldn't put up with that.

It does sound like a Hard drive crash to be honest.
Buy a 300GB 2.5" 54oo rpm used drive just to see whether it is faster or not, it will cost you not much and you can easily do it on your own.

You will immediately see a huge improvement in speed :)

However there are other options for these types of issues, which might come into play later on ;)

Yes, it does sound like your hard drive is bad. Perhaps the package got dropped during shipping or something like that. I would return the laptop and get a replacement. Even if you do buy another hard drive, Lenovo puts the recovery software on to the original hard drive, so you won't have any way to install windows.

Thanks guys, I just figured out that Lenovo's tech support is 24/7 :O I guess from the majority from the comments that it is in fact a hard drive problem. But, I still don't really know what is with the missing file part, i'll ask the tech guy!

Thanks again
