I have been looking at some processors lately and i've been wondering. Is a Tri-core 2.10 GHz Better than a Dual core 2.66 GHz? I've looked around on forums and other threads but can't quite understand it.
Those are older architectures, so I'm a bit rusty. I'm also not 100% sure which particular Core 2 Duo you're comparing with, but assuming it's either an E7300 or E8200, the Core 2 Duo should be better in most cases.
Generally yes, but it depends on how many cores the software you're running is capable of using. Also, you cannot compare GHz directly, since some processors can perform a lot more work per clock cycle (and per core) than others.
depends what your doing, if your gaming most of the time the dual core will do it better. but if the game uses more than 2 threads the tri core would work better. problem is the slower speed of the tri core will hamper smooth gaming.
to play todays AAA games your more likely to need a 2.4(intel) or 2.6(amd) quad core over both the dual or tri core so if you can find a quad for the same price its a better option all together. (even if you have to buy second hand)

You say some processors can perform more per tick than others so if i had to choose which one would be better for casual gaming such as: Minecraft, Terraria, & Skyrim.
