Compatible power supply dell precision t5400?

I have a dell precision t5400 with blinking orange power button and 1 and 3 diagnostic lights flashing too, which prevents it from booting. Apparently a power supply problem.

Was wondering if there was a compatible power supply I could fit instead of the dell GM869 or YN642 as they always seem to develop this problem? Or if any standard power supplies would do the job?

not familiar with this model, this older thread talks about pin outs and modifying to compensate for what appears to be a proprietary design...

Standard supplies won't work because the T5400 uses a Dell proprietary supply , designed for that board.You need a Dell replacement made for that motherboard.

I owned one you need a Dell replacement...Sorry.

Thanks vagrantsoul and blackbird for the speedy replies. But I am a bit confused as to how the power supplies could be different? Is it just that there are specific cables for the system, or some specific amperage, or just the connectors/plugs being different? As you can probably tell I don't really know too much about it!

The power supply and its specs are specific to that board.

All connections aren't standard therefore the name "proprietary supply."

Is that the same with Lenovo s30 workstation board..i have tried to replace it with a modeluar psu and didnt work
