Hi,

I recently purchased the Crucial M550 1TB SSD and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Professional and all drivers successfully.

I then got a whole load of updates so decided to update everything including drivers etc. Everything was fine till I updated the graphics card drivers. After the update was complete i was prompted to restart the system so I did and this is where the problems began! The system restarted and I was presented with 4 beeps and the VGA_LED and BOOT_DEVICE_LED lite up on my motherboard. Windows still starts up as I can hear the startup music however the display is blank. I restarted the PC and the screen was still blank. I can't even get into BIOS as the screen in blank from the moment the power comes on.

I tried the following (in no particular order) without any luck:

- Restarted PC
- Reset MB BIOS (by removing MB battery)
- Update MB BIOS to latest version
- Positioned the Graphics Card in PCI-e slots 2 and 3 as all 3 slots are x16
- Tried the Graphics Card on another system of identical spec (same MB, RAM, CPU, PSU)
- Checked all connections on MB and Graphics Card

I don't have an on-board graphics card on my MB so tried my old graphics card which worked and it worked in all 3 PCI-e slots so that confirmed the PCI-e slots were not at fault.

I even tried it with my old graphics card in PCI-e slot 1 and the GTX780 in PCI-e slot 2 which worked fine however when I switched the HDMI cable to the GTX780 the display went blank until I switched the HDMI cable back to my old card.

I was also able to see the GTX780 in the device manager and was able to successfully update the drivers on the card however when I removed the old card I got the 4 beeps, red lights and blank screen again.

The GTX780 seems to be starting up as the fans are spinning and the green LEDs next to the power connectors are lighting up however it seems as thought the MB doesn't recognise that there is a card plugged in as this is what normally happens when you don't have a Graphic Card connected to the MB.

I have a feeling the BIOS on the GTX780 card maybe corrupted however not 100% sure.

Wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to resolve this as I've spend hours looking on google without luck!

Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

My full system specs are:

- Asus M5A99x Evo MB
- AMD CPU FX Series 8150 Black Edition 8 Core Processor Bulldozer
- 16GB Kingston RAM
- Crucial M550 1TB SSD
- Corsair RM850 PSU
- Asus GTX780 Ti OC2 Graphics Card

Yep. Sounds like the card got paper weighted. I know that's probably not what you want to hear.. :( Though, unless you were actually updating the BIOS, I'm not sure why that would've happened. Was it just a driver update? That's different than updating the BIOS. Did you have any physical contact with the card during this process? Also possible that you may have created an electrostatic discharge and fried the card's PCB.

Thank you for your reply. The card was working perfectly fine before this. In fact I've had the card for almost 2 months now and never had any issues. I've always used the software and drivers from the stock CD supplied with the card however today I thought since i'm installing a fresh system I may as well update everything. Before updating everything was working fine however something must have happened during the update to course my card to stop working. Before doing the update I read on the update log that the Graphic Cards vBIOS will be updated and so was wondering if the vBIOS had been corrupted during the update and if so how am I able to revert it back to its factory settings?

Oh, yep. That's exactly what it sounds like then. Unfortunately if the BIOS has been corrupted, I don't think there's any saving it. Pretty certain it's just an expensive paper-weight now. I could definitely be wrong, but that's why BIOS updates are scary, if it gets interrupted or whatever, the card can become a brick. Best to try to get an RMA. Not sure if they'll cover something like that, so you may have to choose your wording carefully when explaining the problem.
