I am looking for some upgrade advice. I have two his 6850 iceq x turbo and am wanting advice as to what I should upgrade to. I have an i5 2500k processor with 16 gigs of ram. For HD space I have a 128 gig ssd and a 1 tb drive for data.

What I basically want to know is what card I should get. I am debating the 290 or 280. I am not opposed to nvidia cards as well but want a card that will balance my system well yet also give me a good performance boost.

With the intel i advice you go with the Nvidia cards. What is your budget? I suggest you should get the Gtx 770 or 780. I am currently using a R7 250 and it is a good card and performs well too. In Ati i suggest you go with the R9 280X. Cheers.

I do not know off hand, I have more than enough power though. It is rated at 950W last I remembered. It is an ok brand PSU, I will get the brand name either today or tomorrow. Thanks for the recommendation. Do the fans produce cool the gpu enough? I have been reading up on the 290's and know they run hot.

My budget is $400.00-$450.00. The issue I am having is card length. I have a Antec DF-30 case and my maximum card length is 11.5"/292 mm. I was thinking either a 770 or 780 on Nvidia side. Or 280X 290 on AMD side. I am not opposed to either company, I would like some suggestions on cards withing the length restrictions I have.

Yes i suggest too R9 290 as it is best card and you will definitely love and what's more is that it has Mantle technology that will give you increase fps in Thief 2014 and Watch Dogs. on the other hand Nvidia has released a driver that will give increased fps also but i don't trust that right now and it is only proved in some games so i mainly suggest R9 290. Cheers :)  and that MSI gaming edition is best and other one is Asus but i fear it will not fit.

Coolest and quietest 290 is Sapphire Trix-x, but I do not think it will fit your case.
MSI is about as quiet and runs a bit warmer, performs very well fit your case.
The three fan models are longer.
