Got a Crucial M500 240gb SSD the other day and I, at the time, thought the best idea was to just clone my old HDD and Windows. After some reading I found out this wasn't the best idea and now I need to get my clone off of the SSD.

I did some more reading and found out that the way to completely restore an SSD to factory-like status is to do a Secure Erase.

Now here is where the problem comes in: No matter where I look there are only two programs that are ever recommended to do this task: hdderase.exe (loaded via a DOS bootdisc) and Parted Magic.

hdderase.exe requires a DOS bootdisk and I have no clue what that is or how to do it because every time I've tried I have gotten nowhere.

Parted Magic boots up to an options menu and doesn't load from there. Just hangs.

My options are already next to non-existent so I don't know what else to do.

Are you sure? Everything I've read so far indicates that a format isn't enough to restore an SSD to like-new cell condition.

If TRIM is enough to restore it then how long would that take with a 240gb drive? (Since there is no indication).
