Hey all.
I've got a problem with my pc that's driving me mad. I've already searched through every forum but I did not find the solution to it, nor anyone with the same problem.
It all started after I made a clean install of Win7 x64 on my machine (I used to have a x32 version for some purposes, and yes, my processor supports the x64 one).
It all booted well, got my things running up again, but after some time a weird clicking sound appeared. It's coming from the HD, as far as I can tell. My HD is kinda old, got it in 2008, a 250GB Seagate Sata II, and it served me well all theses years.
The clicking happens at no specific time, and the duration varies, ranging from a couple of seconds to few minutes. It can happen while I'm opening files, gaming, browsing through my stuff, removing my pendrive or even when I'm not doing anything at all. It can take hours as it can take minutes before it starts to click. It's anoying! While it's making the click, the system slows down and things start to stutter, even music. After the clicking is gone, everything goes back to normal, as if never happened, but then it happens again. It has passed 3 months since this thing started, and it don't seem to be ending at all.

I've read a bunch of things about the "click of death" and all related stuff, but my situation did not fit in any of the descriptions.
I've already made backup of all important things, but buying another HD is not an option to me right now :/

So, can anyone give advices or solutions?
Thank you.

Have you tried cleaning your case of dust?

It sounds like it may be malfunctioning either due to age or poor manufacturing. Either way there is nothing you can really do since the warranty is no doubt gone. Only solution if cleaning it out doesn't work is to get a new drive before it completely fails on you so that you'll have time to transfer your data.

I did clean it, but that didn't solve the issue :/
I'll try to format this drive and then reinstall the SO. Maybe that helps, though it really looks like a physical problem rather than software related.
Anyways, thank you!
If anyone had the same issue and resolved it, please, let me know.
