I have Windows 8.1 x64 on my laptop. Recently I have been getting loads of frequent BSOD and then auto restarts. I looked on google for help then I came across a thread that talks about disabling the "automatic restart feature" under System Failure (Computer>>Properties>>Advanced system settings>>Startup and Recovery>> System Failure). I unchecked the box right beside Automatic restart then OK,OK to complete. Somehow BSOD pops up every now and then and says will restart but doesn't after loading up to 100% so I do the restart manually. I have repeated the disabling process a zillion times and weird thing is every time I retry process I find out that the box beside "Automatic restart" is checked. My questions are 2.
1. What do I do to return to desktop when the BSOD pops up?
2. Why is the box beside "Automatic restart" under COMPUTER properties>>Startup and Recovery, always checked even though I unchecked it and continue with OK,OK.
Need help with this asap. Thanks in advance.

P.S
I recently installed Utorrent,Ccleaner,File Shredder and ErrorEND.(some are over two months old since installation)

Solution
Re-set windows - back to how it was when you first got it.

Run a virus scanner - Avast free from CNET is good.

Go to Control Panel Uninstall Programs and uninstall everything you definitely know you really don't need.

What make and model laptop? How old?
