It depends where you're at, and the 290x doesnt perform as well as the 780t, graphs and results speak for themselves. And seeing that you've posted here a bit, if you're trying to start some fanboy drama, I'm sure this thread will be shown the door rather quickly.

There are many reasons, main one, AMD like to have more competition by putting lower prices on their GPU's, but their prices should be less because;

-Their R9/R7 GPU's aren't on a 'large' production as the demand isn't being met
-Bitcoin/Litecoin are souring their prices

Also, Nvidia's act in making the best GPU comes with a cost, as it does outperform the R9 290X by a bit (not much at all really), Bit I still prefer the R9 290X due to it's 4GB GDDR5 video memory and wider memory bus, Hence the reason I have one currently.

780ti is generally regarded as quicker and more power efficient both of which increases price. It also is more valuable to video editing/recording people due to shadowplay and CUDA acceleration.

There is also G-SYNC but that hasn't really been established yet due to a lack of monitors, same with mantle and a lack of supported games thus not really adding to R9 290x's feature set.

because AMD wants to grab more market share from nvidia. if possible AMD also want to play premium game like nvidia did but the last time they do it with 7970 nvidia steals more market share from them despite being several months late after initial release of 7970. even undercuts nvidia pricing did not really help them sell more cards back then.

As far has their track record shows, AMD has always tried to keep the pricing much more competitive the Nvidia, same goes for why R9 290X is cheaper, another reason would also be that it was meant to compete with GTX 780 mostly, but it even beat the Titan in some gaming benchmarks. Gtx 780Ti was released some time later with a fully enabled core, and currently it still is the single most powerful graphic card available.
