UEFI Bios and GPT

I have a question regarding UEFI and GPT Partition. Hopefully some of shed the light on. Is the GPT Partition needed on a UEFI based system?

Asus- M5A97 LE R2.0
2 x 500GB SATA
AMD FX-6300
PATRIOT 8GB DDR3
GEFORCE GTX 560 Ti

Well needed is the wrong word, GPT partition is part of the actual UEFI.
GPT is replacing the MBR and UEFI is replacing BIOS.

So if you have one, then the other comes along with it

Thanks, i been loading mine with MBR which seemed to work. I just wondered if i should be using GPT on a 500gb HD. But the BIOS s UEFI.

GPT is needed for hard drives over 2TB not for a 500GB hard drive. MBR format on a boot drive is limited to 2TB.

The size of my HD is why i asked this question. I have two 500GB HD'S. Which i experimented with MBR and GPT. When using MBR. The Windows installation disk detects my HD's in the wrong order. Which caused deletion of a partition on the wrong HB, and a loss of Pictures ect ect. When i tried GPT this did not happen.
