I am looking at buying a new graphics card and the AMD MSI R9 270 is what i am currently considering. However, due to my motherboard, the graphics card will have to cover the SATA ports. If i buy low profile cables, will the card go over it or not? or will i have to buy a new motherboard as well?

Best solution

a c 95 V Motherboard
a c 172 U Graphics card

Right angle plugs will work for half of those. You might be able to get them to work on the top half, but I'd just use normal ones on those. I'm sure you'd be fine. They might be in the way, but they are fairly flexible so I'm sure you'll be able to route them around the card.
