Since April 17th I have been trying to update my computer to Windows 8.1 Update (from Win 8.1). However every time(5 times) I try this I face the Page fault in nonpaged area BSOD on the reboot after installation of updates. I have to restore my pre-update images and retry, but every time I just get the same result

  • ■ I have tried different sets of RAMs that run just fine with Windows 8.1 before update, so definately no Ram issue
    ■ I am not overclocking the CPU(3770K) or GPU(780), Rams were either not overclocked( DDR3-1600 Samsung Ram 2X4) or run exactly on their XMP profile( DDR3-2133 G.Skill Ripjaw X 2x8), both have no Memtest86 errors or caused BSOD in Prime 95)
    ■ I have tried disabling Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes, no influence what so ever.
    ■ I have tried enabling OneDrive & Skype(usually I have those disabled) on boot, no difference whether they are enabled or not
■I have not touched my page file setting since Win8 installation, it have been set at 1024MB max since installation and I had no issues.
    ■ I see people mention other forum mention Steelseries software causing issue, I have Razer Synapse disabled on boot, so that is not the likely cause.

Have anyone encountered anything like this, and if so how did you resolve that problem? If I couldn't find any solution I guess I have no option but to go back to my old Windows 7 key

It's probably a RAM, HDD or a software issue. As you've tried different RAM modules, the RAM is probably not the issue (if you want to be 100% sure whether RAM is fine or not, try memtest to test your RAM; http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic62524.html)

Left are the HDD and software using the nonpaged area. Open the command prompt and run type chkdsk to spot bad sectors on your harddrive. If CHKDSK finds something, type chkdsk /f. The /f flag tells chkdsk to solve any issues found.

If chkdsk doesn't work, it's either software, but there are reports of viruses causing this error. you can remove programs one by one, reinstall windows, or completely wipe your harddrive (wiping, not formatting) to make sure there are no viruses on it.

Hope this helped a bit, good luck!

I have already done chkdsk(on my C drive SSD), no difference. I also memtested two different set of memory modules(mentioned in the first two bullet points), no errors for either.

The problem occurs during re-booting of Windows after the update have been installed, since my HDDs my don't contain any programs(they are both media storage), I doubt it is any issues there.

Have you replaced any hardware lately? It could also be a driver. And does it give a BSOD when you boot in safe mode?

No hardware change other than I switched Ram after the BSOD started to see if there was a issue(BSOD happens with both set of RAMs). Have not tried booting in safe mode.
