Hi,

I wanted to ask the community if there is anything i can do to speed up my SSD bootup time. I installed windows 8 day before yesterday. At first it was stuck at 30%, so I took the disk out, and cleaned it with microfiber cloth and was then able to install it fully, the second time. It was a windows 8 (not 8.1) 64 bit install. I then installed all the drivers from the CD for the gigabyte motherboard. Everything except for WT+BT were installed from the CD. They are all enabled in the startup as well. What could be the problem causing it a slow bootup. Here is my computer specs-

PHANTOM 530 BLACK- CASE
CORSAIR CS750- POWER SUPPLY
Gigabyte GA-H87N-WIFI- MOTHERBOARD
PATRIOT VIPER XTREME 8GB(1) DDR3 1600MHZ MEMMORY- RAM
EVGA GEFORCE GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 1006MGHZ- GRAPHIC CARD
Intel Core i5-4670K Quad-Core Processor -3.4GHZ 6MB L3 CACHE- PROCESSOR
SAMSUNG DRW-24B1ST 24X Internal DVD Burner- DVD BURNER
SEAGATE HDD 1TB 3.5" SATA 3 64MB CACHE- HARD DRIVE
Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB- SSD

I am afraid I may have some bad news for you. When did you purchase your Kingston V300 ssd? If you purchased the ssd sometime during the past 6 months, then it is probably the ssd itself that is the problem. Kingston changed the type of flash memory used in the ssd from Toshiba flash memory to Micron flash memory without publishing the fact. Kingston did not admit the flash memory was changed until there were numerous consumer complaints at newegg, other retailers, and online forums about slow performance. The Micron flash memory is slower than the Toshiba flash memory resulting in lower performance. In addition there was a problem with firmware updates. Kingston did not admit the flash memory was changed until there were numerous...

Would installing Windows 8.1 through store work?- I want to avoid installing windows 8, only to find the problem again?

Also if i update windows 8.1- would it still have the old windows 8.0 files in there? Since I only have 120 GB space (111 GB is actually usable) I want to save maximum space, while still having a faster bootup? Should i be aware of anything before i do this?

Thanks

BTW - Changing components and specifications is nothing new. Veterans who have been here for a while will remember what happened when OCZ changed the flash memory in one of their models. PNY currently does it with their PNY Optima ssd's. At least PNY published specifications that showed three different types of flash memory. I listed both types of memory for the Kingston V300 and all three types of flash memory for the PNY Optima in the ssd database I maintain. Here is the link:

Solid state drives are not the only products with specifications that change. A few years ago the same thing happened with DDR3 memory modules and monitors with IPS panels. The only way to find out was to remove the memory heat spreaders and to take apart the monitors. Of course taking things apart voids any warranties. The companies covered themselves by having a clause in the fine print stating specifications could change at any time for any reason.
