ok so im about to purchase parts for my first gaming pc build here are the parts ( in random order)

Seagate ST1000DM003 3.5 inch 1TB Barracuda Hard Drive

Corsair Builder Series CXM 600W Modular 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX/EPS PSU

MSI Nvidia GTX 760 2GB DDR5 TF Fan PCI-E Graphics Card

CiT Vantage Mesh Gaming Case with 4 Fans, 3 Purple LED and Card Reader (No PSU)

HyperX Genesis 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 CL9 DIMM Memory Kit (2 x 4 GB) - XMP Ready

MSI Z87M-G43 m-ATX Motherboard (Intel Z87, 4x DDR3, DVI, HDMI, 4x USB3.0, GBE LAN, LGA1150 Socket)

and the cpu i will be getting is

Intel Core i5 4670K Quad Core Retail CPU (Socket 1150, 3.40GHz, 6MB, Haswell, 84W, Intel Graphics, BX80646I74770, 4th Generation Intel Core, Turbo Boost Technology 2.0)

so is it worth overclocking and paying extra for an aftermarket cpu cooler ?

Solution
I think it's almost always worth overclocking the CPU. I have a similar setup and you'll notice gains, especially in multiplayer.

I would never advise overclocking on the stock heatsink/cooler. Haswell is known to run a little hotter so it's especially important to get proper cooling. I highly advise the Hyper 212 EVO as mentioned above and do your homework if you decide to OC.

You don't HAVE to get an aftermarket CPU cooler to overclock. The stock cooler will do fine (the temps will be hotter than an aftermarket cooler). I have the FX 6300 overclocked to 3.9 GHz with the stock cooler and it does just fine. So, to answer your question, in my opinion it is worth the extra $30 to get an aftermarket cooler and overclock (assuming you will go with the Hyper 212 EVO which does FANTASTIC for the price). You will get way better performance for little cost. I hope this helped.
