Hi all.

I have a old Dimentions E521 with a OCT 103 board Geforce 6150 chipset that im looking to upgrade the CPU from a X2 4200+ 2.2ghz to a 6000+ 3.0ghz. I have a 365w max hp psu.
Will there be any compatibilty issues with this upgrade?

What other upgrades would you advise to keep this little machine going for a while longer

I have 8Gb 800mhz ram, stock Radeon X1300 GPU, a OCZ vertex 120Gb SSD.

Any other info you need just let me know. thanks.

Solution
the 6000+ will work aslong as you get the 89w windsor chip I used to have one in mine before I upgraded the psu to 500w and then upgraded the processor to its very best the 6400+ BE but if you plan on going to the 6400 a heat sink upgrade will have to be a must that dell heat sink is not good for the 125w cpu
you can upgrade the gpu too look here

305watt PSU

and for the cpu... see here this is your board?

the cpu you can have to upgrade

if you compare the both togeter

BUT YOUR MOTHERBOARD IT CAN SUPPORT A 125W CPU????
you can check here for test result

do you think i can keep the temps down. i also have this heatsink from a hp and was wondering if you think it will fit

i also belive there is life in these old dogs. my e521 is very fast for genral use with the ssd and ram. the new gpu must be better then the X1300 i have right now.

you should be good on temps the processor doesnt get 2 hot also please not i didnt even have the fans mounted on my cause when I had the processor in its just the 6400 procssor and the 125w 6000+ that get hot so you should be good remember mounting the fans to this case is a little tricky but it summer is comming around so its better safe than sorry also I dont think the dual fans would fir cause of the shroud I'm going to add a picture of the fans addapter its here(http://tinypic.com/m/i5d43r/2) mine came with 3 pin adpters but i would need to see all your psu cables to determine what fans would work/adapters you require.

so do the fans that are connected to the psu run at a 1000 mile an hour as there not controled?

i was thinking of mounting the dual fan somewere inside to get some air circulating and the other fan at the back like yours connected to the PSU.

1 question i have is, do i want the fan at the back bringing air in or blowing it out, in turn during air in through the front?

well you'll want the air out there is already a giant spinning can in the front of the case pulling air in but since theres not fans in the back the case tends to fill up with hot air thats where my two cans come in pushing the hot air out helps keep the air flowing smoothly and also the cans I use are completely silent and make little to no niose at all

well none of the conectors were any good and the fans are shit. i conected a old hp case fan up and put it on the bottom of the case blowing at my gpu.

i took my coolmaster cpu cooler out of anouther old dead computer from the graveyard in the garage. i put at the back on the grids next to the pci metal removable panels. it has a controler at the back so i han turn it up or down. it propper blasts the air out of the machine, and you can fill more air being sucked in at the front. my temps are low. my gpu is sat at 45 and its been on all day. air flow of 25 and the cores are at around 50. i have a replacement led HSF comming but i didnt realize dell use a shitty 5 pin mobo cpu fan connector dp i guess ill just find a place for it

also when I first replaced my cpu i took compressed air and sparyed all the dust of the front fan but I have heard of people replacing there front fan with a batter one but get a cpu fan error every time they turn there machine on but thats just what I have heard
