Hi,

I have a Kingston HyperX 120gb SSD that seeming has slower write speeds than expected. I just performed a crystal disk test on it and the read is fine at 429.5mb/s while write is much lower at 175.2. Does anybody know why the write speed could be so low?

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue that is occurring with the HyperX 3k SSD. The write speed should be much higher and close to our advertised 510MB/s. Make sure the drive is connected to a native SATAIII port set to AHCI mode. If the OS has already been installed and SATA is not in AHCI special changes need to be made prior to changing this setting in your BIOS or the system will not boot. If that is not the issue and the OS was cloned to the drive there could be an alignment issue, which I have seen create a 200-300MB/s descrepancy in speeds. You can check the Partitioning Starting Offset of the SSD in System Infomation>Components>Storage>Disks. It should be the last item listed for the parition. If you divide that number by 4096, you will find one of two things. If it is a whole number than the partition is aligned properly, if it is a decimal value than the partition is misaligned. To properly align the drive you can use a utility like AOMEI Partition Assistant (http://www.disk-partition.com/free-partition-manager.html). I have used it and it's easy to use, fairly intuitive, may require a reboot to process the alignment if the OS is running on the drive. If none of this addresses the issue, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.
