I have just powered my new PC up everything works fine. Ive put the graphics card in and connected the power cables from the psu in the way that was recommended on this site and nothing happend the monitor is blank. Ive done a little reaearch and came across a little swictch on the GPU that selects legacy or hybrid biostried both and still nothing happens. I cant even install the driver. Using the CD that was suppled it only gets so far then stops with an error.

Im thinking I need the power cables in the GPU to install the driver but how can I see what im doing to install the driver when I cant see the display when I connect the power to the GPU :S

Any help would be appreciated

My build

MSI R9 280X
MSI Z87 G45
Be Quiet 630W psu
Samsung SSD
Crucial 1600 ram

I am presuming you are connecting the monitor cable to the card?

If both PCIe connectors connected to the card and the monitor connected to the card most likely you have a DOA card unless in this case you were switching from Nvidia card to AMD which could be driver issues.

No its a brand new build. Ive literally finished it off tonight and have been installing all the drivers etc. Ive come across things about Bios updates but nothing seems to work.

The fans come on the graphics card but thats it. If I have the graphics card plugged into the PCI slot but leave the power connectors unplugged would the PC recognise that something is there or does it need to have the power cables aswell to show up?

All the power cables need to be connected for it to work. Try installing the GPU to the second PCIe x16 slot. If that works the first slot might be faulty.

Hi I have just tried placing the Graphics card into the the second slot and the display came on. It then allowed me to install the drivers and I had a little go on a game and got an easy 60fps on high settings. I then replaced the card into the first slot and had the problem all over again.

Just to confirm this is definitely a problem with my motherboard and I will need to replace it?

Well the card works and everything else does too, except for that one slot. Return the board for a replacement. You won't need to install any drivers again, just plug the replacement board in after you've got it and you're good to go.

Yes it sounds like a problem with the board the slot closest to the CPU is the primary slot.

Great :(  well thanks for all your help. Ill get onto Novatech first thing. Hopefully buying the board like 3 weeks ago wont make a difference to a return...its been sat in my wardrobe unopened until I bought all my parts lol.
