Hi,

I'm experiencing stutter/lag when playing video on stream sites like Netflix, HBO Go, and even programs like VLC.

My current setup is as follows:

CPU - Core i7 4770k
HEATSINK - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
GPU - EVGA 760 SC 2gb
HDD - Samsung 840 Pro 256gb SSD
RAM - 16gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600
MOBO - ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO
PSU - Corsair HX850 850W

I am also running a dual monitor setup, with the primary monitor being 1920x1080, and the second monitor only being 1600x900. I have tried sweeping the GPU drivers, however the lag still persists. I don't see how simple video playback could strain my current rig, so what could be the problem?

Solution
I recently worked on a very high-end DAW that could not play back audio, local or streaming, without eventually producing pops, clicks, & buzzing on the audio. Test tones over the internet as well as local source material played back through multiple devices: Integrated Realtek onboard audio, an Asus Xonor Essence STX card and also on a Roland Octa-Capture DAC. These artifacts appeared on all the audio devices.... as long as the internal Wifi was enabled. Disabling the WiFi and using a physical CAT5 cable fixed the issue.

My point is if he doesn't know what is causing the issue, how could he be so quick to dismiss my advice when the information he is supplying us is just as potentially irrelevant.

The stutter the OP is seeing is...

"I have a network issue"

"What is your physical connection to all things you have issue with?"

"Irrelevant."

Glad we could help. Good thing you told us about your monitor resolutions though. I was going to go all day wondering about that.

With the information he supplied, it sort of is irrelevant. He said it also happens in VLC media player, which is likely playing local files, therefore not using the network.

As far as a solution goes... I have no input. Except maybe a reformat haha, but people don't usually like doing that. If the problem persists after reformatting then I would think there is a problem with the GPU.

The stutter the OP is seeing is likely not because his rig is too weak or being taxed too heavy. The symptom is visible while the cause may not be. He shouldn't be quite so dismissive if he doesn't know what is wrong.

Again, while I appreciate the suggestion, this is not a network related issue. Whether or not the internet is connected, the card has trouble processing any video playback, on both streaming and media players. Oddly enough, it handles video games just fine though.
