Hi everyone,

I am of late planning to build a PC for myself. I will be essentially usuing this for editing pics and vids and doing some scientific work, and would like it to last for a decent period of time, since here in India, it is quite costly to build a high end computer. I saw here an advice to write such queries, so I am summerising my query below.

Approximate Purchase Date: As soon as possible.

Budget Range: Equivalent to ~USD 1350.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: For editing pics and vids and doing some scientific work. Least important is gaming.

Parts Not Required: Monitor, KB, Mouse, DVD Writers.

Country: India

Overclocking: May be yes.

SLI or Crossfire: Do not know.

Additional Comments: I already own an ASUS USB3 external BluRay writer.

I have decided upon the following configuration:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4.

CPU: Intel Core i7 4820k, @3.7 GHz.

RAM: Corsair Vengeance, DDR3, 8 GB, 1600 MHz, C10.

Graphics Card: Sapphire AMD Radeon R7 240, 1 GB GDDR5, PCIe 3.0.

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

Solid State Drive: Samsung 840EVO 120 GB.

Hard Disk Drive: Seagate Barracuda Desktop, 1 TB, 6 Gb/s, 64 MB Cache, 7200 rpm (ST1000DM003).

Power Supply Unit: Corsair VS650, 650 watt or Corsair CX500, 500 W 80+ Bronze.

Cabinet: Corsair Carbide 200R.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1, 64 bit.

I have the following questions:
Firstly, is this config a good one? Then, is the choice of the Graphics card OK? Will the CX500 PSU be enough or do I need the VS650 (which is 80+ certified, but not bronze). I had thought about the CX600 but that is costlier.

Please help and suggest.

Thanks in advance.

Neither PSU is great. Go with Antec, XFX, Seasonic.

The GPU is fine if you are not planning to do any gaming or anything like that.

450-500w is more than enough.
