Why an Antec 620w PSU make my GTX 750 ti works while a CM 550w PSU isn't? Strange

Hi folks,

I have a very strange problem.

I had a HP PSU, 300w (275w effective) + Athlon X2 250 + 4go + HDD + DVD drive + old graphic card.

Everything worked, then i bought a GTX 750 ti, and i had a black screen. I've created a thread here where i was advised to change my PSU as it was suspected to not be sufficient for the graphic card.

I've changed it for an Antec NEO ECO 620C. Then the graphic card worked.

But the PSU had a rattling noise, very annoying. So i've tested another PSU. A Cooler Master 550w Silent Pro Platinum. Here's the description. And once again, i have a black screen. The PC is booting, i can even see my wifi dongle turning on (which indicates that Windows is opened), but a black screen. It is supposed to be one of the best PSU. And the GTX 750 ti is one of the less consuming graphic card, MSI support recommended me a 400w PSU.

Why a 550w platinum PSU, rather modern, isn't working? Have i forgot some plug?

Please help.

Could be possible that as the person who advised you to use a more powerful PSU is correct. Your system needs atleast 600~620W to power the GPU. I'd recommend buying a 750W PSU just to be safe as the 620W is powering your system.

but i don't understand from where it's coming from.

I mean, the Athlon x2 250 is like 60w, the GTX 750 ti is 38w TDP, 75w max from the pci-e (no additional power from the PSU on this model), 1 HDD, 1 optical drive, 4 GO of ram, 2 or 3 USB peripherals plugged. That's all. Why am i needing a beast 600w+ PSU for such a low consumption rig?

Quote:
Nvidia's PSU requirement for the 750 Ti is also low at just 300W, so you won't need a beefy 500W or 750W beast to power this mini GPU

Not 100% sure on this if I'm honest. Get the PSU to be checked out , I researched the 750 Ti and it doesn't need any external power supply so really and truly it should work with a 400w PSU easily. See if the cables for the 550w PSU isn't faulty ( the motherboard headers ones )

But if there was a problem with the PSU (which is brand new), the computer wouldn't boot isn't it? With this PSU, the computer is booting, i hear the HDD loading files, i can see the wifi dongle turning its light on (which it does only on Windows). I am also pretty sure that i have well plugged the PSU>motherboard cable, if it wasn't the case then the PC wouldn't boot isn't it?

Very weird :/

That's true, but then again I'm trying to think why the PSU isn't working. Let me do a bit of research into this and I'll get back to you

I had the same black screen with the PSU Antec Neo ECO 620 this morning. The PC boots and all, the HDD is loading windows, but no image.

I've check and pushed all the plugs inside, pushed also the graphic card on its slot, then it worked.

Very weird instability from this system pertaining to the video. I'm wondering if it's not coming from the motherboard (5 years old), too old and not suited to transfer 75w of power through the pci-e port, or from the GTX 750 ti which is brand new, but could be faulty.
