Hi, so I'm extremely new to messing with the insides of computers, but I really like gaming so I wanted to build a decent gaming desktop, but nothing too special so under 1,000 preferably. I need help knowing what parts are good, what parts they fit with, and how to assemble it.

What is your budget, where are you located (country/State/City), Do you plan to overclock, Do you prefer Intel or AMD for cpus, Do you prefer Nvidia or AMD for GPU?

My budget is 900s, and I'm not really looking for anything too special. I have no idea how to overclock. I heard intel is better so intel. And I don't mind I heard they're both good. And also I may be wrong so please correct me if I am

With $1000 USD you can get a pretty good system. Did you need the OS (Windows) or monitor included in your $1000 price?

If you do not need an OS or Monitor then this system would be awesome:

This would play almost all games at Ultra settings at 1080p.

For help building this is a great guide (it is what I used): http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/274745-31-step-step-g...

Also there are a ton of youtube videos that you could watch to get more comfortable with building.

If you are in the US and have a micro center near you, the cpu is on sale for $20 off.

Is there a part or two I could maybe tone down or something? I don't need anything too special and I just don't want a powerful computer and I won't use it to the fullest. Ya feel me? I didn't really say this, but like I'll spend 1,000 if I have to but pref like 800-950 and like I don't mind if it's a bit less powerful

How much are you looking to cut down to?

This would be about $800 ($900 with OS)

i5, gtx 760, No SSD, Overclockable (the first build was overclockable too)

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($56.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 760 2GB DirectCU II Video Card ($249.99 @ Micro Center)
Case: Corsair 300R ATX Mid Tower Case ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($59.99 @ NCIX US)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($16.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($98.88 @ NCIX US)

Some info on the parts I changed:

-SSD- A solid state drive is basically a really fast hard drive (where you store your information). The reason behind having a SSD and HDD (hard drive) in the first build is because if you install your OS and web browser/applications on the SSD they will open/start faster. So an SSD would boot up your windows alot faster than if you put your OS on a standard Hard Drive. SSD are considered a luxury item mainly because there is no performance increase for gaming. So if you were playing a game that is stored on the SSD your loading screens would be shorter but there would be no difference between how the game looks once it loads up.

-GPU- The gtx 770 is a very powerful card, if you are playing at a 1080p resolution, it would play pretty much all games at max settings. The gtx 760 in the second build is a step down from the gtx 770 but is still very powerful (and what I have right now). I can play all games to my satisfaction right now with a gtx 760. Played Bioshock Infinite at Ultra details, Skyrim with a ton of mods, Batman Origins and Assassins Creed at high or ultra.

Let me know if you have any questions about either build.
