So I was asked to do a DxDiag today and noticed that my PC has 12833MB allocated page file memory and I'm curious if this is necessary.

Currently, I'm using a 2TB HDD as system drive, which is accelerate using Intel Rapid Storage Technology with a 60GB Patriot Inferno.

I've got 16GB of DDR3 ram. CPU-Z says 824.2 MHz. (Because I'm too lazy to take it out and check)

So.. Is 12GB of Pagefile necessary? Is any page file necessary? It seems like it would be detrimental since my HDD is probably the slowest of all.

Solution
With 16GB of RAM you probably aren't using the Page File at all. Windows automatically creates a size based on your total HDD space, so it's huge because of your huge system disk.

Feel free to make it smaller if you like. Something in the 2-4 GB range should be ample.
