Hello I just installed a nvidia gtx 780 ti sc acx on my sabertooth x58 motherboard and I'm pretty sure I installed it right but now my pc won't turn on...! What am I doing wrong?? One thing that confused me is that this graphics card has an 8 pin power connector and a 6 pin also and my old graphics card only had a 6 pin..

So I used the adapters that came with the card and connected both 8 pin and 6 pin but I don't know if I'm doing it wrong, can someone help me..? Pc won't start now... Thanks.

If you don't have the specifications from when you bought it, you should be able to find a label on the actual PSU itself.

EDIT: The PSU may say 650W, but without knowing the quality of it, you can't be sure it can really output that much power.

That is a good quality PSU, which should ideally be able to run your GPU without a problem. You said the PC won't turn on:

1. Does it make any beeping sounds?
2. Do the system fans spin?
3. Do the lights on your keyboard flash when you try to boot?

I don't know if it can't power it, I'm just trying to get to grips with where you are right now. My first suspicion, when there's trouble after changing to a more power hungry card, is that it's a power issue.

I agree with PlayerTwo, that PSU is pretty good though... Hmm... You mentioned you had to use adapters to connect the power to the graphics card, is that correct? Are we talking Molex adapters? Doesn't that PSU come with two 6+2 PCI E power cables?

When I try to boot it it is completely silent, no noises, nothing. But the green tower light is on.. And I'm not sure about the keyboard.. Didn't check that but I had a somewhat similar problem a couple weeks ago when I bought the 16 gigs of ram.. Before when I had installed the ram, the pc would turn on and make noise but no picture and it was because the ram was in the wrong slot.. Could it be the same with the graphics card??

Oh man that PSU has several wires coming out of it, almost too many..! I wasn't sure how to connect it but someone told me to connect all of them in both slots on the graphics card.. The graphics card has 2 plugins.. One 6 pin and one 8 pin.. And the card came with 2 adapters so I'm pretty sure everything is here but it feels like a puzzle trying to connect it..

There should be two cables that look like the following picture, coming out of your power supply, that should be fully connected to your graphics card.

Does your system power on normaly if you remove the graphic card?

You shouldn't have needed to use any adapters though; your power supply already has the correct wires to go into it (the two 6+2 PCI E cables. You plug one 6+2 into the 8 pin hole, and then you plug only the 6 part of the other cable into the 6 pin hole. Using MOLEX adapters is always a little sketchy (especially as that PSU has two 12 volt rails), but I'm not exactly convinced that's the cause of your issues. It's just a possibility, and it would be remiss of me not to mention it :)

EDIT: Thanks for the picture PlayerTwo. A picture's worth 1000 words :)

OH my god dude, thank you! Well I haven't tested that connection yet but this entire time I had it connected to different wires! I'm gonna try the wires in the picture.. But you guys are great, appreciate your assistance, I'm gonna try it

Dang well it still is silent when I turn the power on.. Same result.. But I did connect those wires y'all mentioned.. Did I connect them incorrectly??? I did notice how there's a 6 pin and a 2 pin making it a 8 pin when put together but did I do it wrong??? And I connected both wires because the graphics card has 2 connections: (1) 6 pin and (1) 8 pin if that helps..

if it turns on then i would guess the video card wasn't properly seated in the pcie lane. dont shove or force, and make sure you unplug the system from the wall, but sometimes you need to give that little extra lil umph to get the card fully seated, again... DO NOT shove or force. unplug the whole tower and CAREFULLY move it to an area with light and carefully and slowly make sure its properly seated and the power pins are in from the power supply.

It would mean that the problem lies with the card, or with the way it is being connected.

Ok I just turned on the computer without the graphics card and it still does exactly the same thing...! I still see the green light on the front of the tower but complete silence.....! :/ what does this mean????? It was working perfectly before I put in the new graphics card.... Is something not connected right???
