Hey everybody! I'm new to the forums and I signed up specifically for this problem because it is driving me nuts!! I made a fresh build recently and I'm having trouble installing windows xp pro sp1. Initially when I tried to install xp it would go to somewhere about halfway through process and gave me a blue screen and error code. I never got the past that.. So I left it alone for awhile out of frustration and now ive replaced the only part that wasnt brand new when I started the fresh build(disc reader), hoping that was the problem. Well now I can't even get into the installation screen at all. All I get is the blinking underscore and then a black screen and another blinking underscore. I've searched the forums for the last 24 hrs with no luck so I'm kind of hoping someone can point me in the right direction in my particular case.

Mobo: MSI z77a-g45
8gb of ddr3 ram
550 watt power supply
Western digital sata 6 1 tb hard drive

I'd tried suggestions like switching the sata to IDE instead ACHI and changing the boot priorities. I'm using xp pro sp1 and I've used the disc before although it is a burned disc.

I'm not sure exactly what details to provide.. If someone could help me out I'd really appreciate it

+1 ^, XP 64 bit has poor driver support and was a bit of an abandoned OS. Install a clean setup of Win 7 64 bit, or you may was well remove half your RAM.

You will need to have the drive settings to ATA or Legacy to get XP to see them, SP3 slipstreamed into a setup disk may see the SATA ports to install it, but does not always work even with SP3.

Issue may be RAM also, try running on only one stick at a time.

But the best thing to do is to buy a copy of Win 7 64 bit for your system.

i just gotta ask why in the world are you installing an old os that has no support anymore on a new build?for one thing to take advantage of all your installed ram you need a 64 bit version of windows and xp was the buggiest 64bit os out there.im with i7 here.go get a copy of win7.you will be glad you did.
