PC suddenly using integrated graphics

I got this new computer last Christmas, and the GTX 550ti GPU was working just fine up until now.

Recently I noticed that most 3D games I tried to play were running very slowly and managed to narrow it down to the fact that the computer had suddenly decided to run with integrated graphics rather than using the GPU, according to the Display tab on dxdiag. I checked that the GPU hadn't come loose, and that's not the problem.

The problem seems to have come around after I attempted to update the video card drivers (to GeForce 335.23), I didn't stay with the computer to make sure that it went through the whole installation process and by the time I got back to the computer it had been turned off by one of my family members. I reinstalled the drivers, which did nothing. Strange thing is, the NVIDIA GeForce Experience program still shows the GTX 550ti under GPU on the 'My Rig' tab, as opposed to dxdiag which says I'm running Intel HD Graphics 4400.

System Specs (that I can find):
Intel Core i3-4130 3.4GHz (4 CPUs)
8GB RAM (Gigabyte)
NVIDIA GTX 550ti
Windows 7 Home Premium

It's plugged into the motherboard, why is that a problem? It was working completely fine the past few months. Unfortunately there're no ports in the GPU that are compatible monitor cable. The GPU has two ~26-pin serial ports, and the monitor uses a 15-pin serial port/cable.

if your monitor is plugged into the motherboard then it is using the integrated graphics.the only way to utilize your dedicated graphics card is to be plugged into said card.unless your monitor or card is an older one there should be a connection.post your monitor and video card specs and we can clear this up in no time.

ok got it.the monitor is vga while your card is dvi.there are adapters to run your monitor on your video card but it will still not be digital.i would look at a new monitor.you can get these adapters all over the place.here is a link to walmart.

if you go the new monitor route it looks like your card has an hdmi out so look for a monitor that supports that.
