Hello,

To replace my old windows xp pc, I have ordered a Dell computer (XPS 8700) which is provided with a cpu core i7-4770. Having consulted later some computer sites, I learned that this cpu should be replaced in early May by the i7-4790. Because I can wait 3 or 4 weeks, I'll probably return this pc for a credit to order the same model that I hope will be updated with the haswell refresh.
Do you think that computer manufacturers like Dell will make this replacement or not?

Thanks.

(I know that the difference between those two is minimal, but buy something 2 weeks before the new stuff arrives annoys me...)

No. Dell will wait till they've sold most of their old stock first. The they'll reduce prices on what's left.

The refresh isn't such a big deal that I can work out anyway - better thermal paste between die and case and better chip selection/binning.

Me? I wouldn't buy a Dell anyway. We get lots of problems here which are hard to work out because there's not much info on their machines. My recommendation is to have a good look around and compare prices from elsewhere eg CyberPower, Microcentre, newegg - for the same spec pc
