Hopefully I am posting this in the correct section, this is my first post on this forum. I've been using a standard HP P6230 for some time now and I was looking to swap out some parts. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me if what I am looking at getting is going to be compatible or not. I'm on kind of a tight budget but this is what I managed to come up. Here is what I was looking at for the motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128565 and here is the processor I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113286. This system came with 8gb of DDR3 memory, I was hoping that it would be compatible with the new board so I wouldn't have to buy more memory. Any input would be greatly appreciated, I figured I should get someone to confirm this would work before I go spending money on stuff that won't work with my current setup. Here is the link to the actual specs of the system from the HP website http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01859871&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en.

I have a EVGA Geforce 760 in it currently and it makes an enormous difference but it isn't performing as well as it should be. I have a 800 watt power supply I put in whenever I changed out the video card. I'd like to put a new CPU in to increase performance, I should have no problem playing Elder Scrolls Online at max settings but I'm not quite getting the framerates that I should be getting. Thank you for the input!

Correct. Elder Scrolls HATES AMD CPUs. Always have. An i3 will do the same in Skryrim as an 8320. Your older phenom is definitely holding you back. You REALLY REALLY want to go intel even if it is an i3 if you are mainly playing Elder Scrolls.

What is your 800w PSU? Also, don't forget you WILL have to reinstall windows.

I wanted to go with an Intel i5 from the beginning but didn't want to shell out the cash. Here is what I'm looking at now for a motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157388 and here's the processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899. I really wanted to get a board with a Z87 chipset, from what I hear they're great for overclocking but I don't think that's feasible on my budget at the moment. I should be able to use the DDR3 that I already have with this board correct? Am I going to have any issues getting this board into the HP tower? Thanks again to everyone who has helped me out thus far!

You can use the RAM you already have.

You should not get that motherboard and CPU combo. That CPU is for overclocking and the motherboard doesn't support overclocking. Get an i5 4440.

You will more than likely have to buy a new copy of windows. You MUST ALWAYS reinstall Windows when changing the motherboard.

Well I decided I'm just going to shell out the little bit of extra cash and get a motherboard that will go with 4670k. I'd like to have the option to overclock and it's worth the extra few bucks to me to be able to do that. Found a mobo with the z87 chipset that's a little cheaper because it's been opened. So I think this is the final decision of what I'm going to go with for the motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157368R and the i5 4670k CPU. I know that I'll have to get a new copy of Windows as well. I don't care about overclocking right away, I'm going to invest in a new case and some other things when I get payed and I'll need to get an aftermarket cooler when I decide to OC. On the HP website it shows my current mobo as uATX which is the same as Micro ATX correct? Does HP incorporate anything that prevents you from installing aftermarket motherboards?
