I just recently bought a Samsung EVO SSD and I've been trying to migrate my data from my HDD to the new SSD with the software provided (Samsung Data Migration & Samsung Magician). I'm a complete newbie to this kind of this so I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.
Unfortunately I don't have any boot cd's but my old hard drive has a boot partition with the ability to install windows 7. I started by saving all my important data on a external drive and I wiped everything else, reinstalled windows 7, did every single update available, upgraded to windows 8, did all those updates.
Now that I basically have a fresh copy of windows 8 installed I tried to copy that to the new SSD, I get the notification that it has been copied successfully and that I need to restart. When I change the boot order from the BIOS and get it to boot from the SSD I get this message:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click next.
3. Click "repair your computer"
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: \Boot\BCD
Status : 0xc000000f
Info : The boot configuration data for your PC is missing or contains errors."
The data on my HDD takes up 80gigs and my SSD is 250gigs (232 usable), so when I check my computer and look at the drives installed after the data migration, the SSD is now set as two separate drives. 100MB's going to drive F (being 100% full), and the rest going to drive G (76 of 232 gbs used)
ALSO whenever I start up the "Samsung Magician" software, it says :
"Magician cannot communicate with the below Samsung SSD. Please check with the other compatible storage drivers and try again.
1. Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250G SCSI Disk Device (S1DBNSBF253353D)."
and then it loads up and is able to detect it.
Am I missing something here? any help would be VERY appreciated, I just want to transfer my windows 8 to my new SSD without needing the media disk.
