can i use 80 to 120mm fan adapter for water cooling?

just bought an i7 3770 with no heatsink, my case isn't quite big enough to fit the cooler master hyper 212 evo, I was going to buy a low profile heatsink such as Noctua NH-L9i but its not recommended for i7 3770 as the i7 TDP is 77w and the Noctua is 65w at most
The back of my case only allows 80mm fans, but if I bought an adapter such as this:

could I go ahead and buy something like a Corsair H55 and use it with the fan adapter?

you could fit the h55 using that adapter assuming you have the space for the 120mm rad at the fan mount but it will cause a restriction on airflow and diminish performance of the cooler a bit

You can buy a reference heatsink...
