Hi All,

i have been checking out the forum for almost 4 hours , saw 100s of post, but still wondering if it can be done.

i have the following things:
1. 4G AirTel USB dongle
2. Desktop (Windows 7 32 bit)
3. NetGear DGN1000 (wireless router/modem)

i just want to receive 3G network from my airtel dongle into desktop and share it using the netgear router, please let me know if it's possible, if yes, then please give me the Steps/ link having the steps.

Note : a lot of ppl have been saying follow the RealBest's post/ un-check DHCP in wireless router. but not sure where those posts are.

Thanks in advance

The best solution would be to buy a router that supports this like a tplink or asus or many of the other ones. You would then directly hook the dongle to the router and it would run pretty standard.

To use your PC you need to run ICS and then for best results run the router as a AP. It can be run as a router but it get tricky with ICS involved sometimes. Microsoft has pretty good information how to setup ICS but you are now using your desktop machine as a router. You have to be careful to not overload the machine running other application or you can affect its ability to pass traffic. You also have to leave the machine on all the time and make sure it does not have power saving options that will turn off things like the ethernet

ok it kinda worked.... this is what i did :

connect dongle to USB (local area network 1)
> enable ICS to it
> router home page (192.168.0.1)
> settings->LAN settings-> un-check "use Router as DHCP Server"
> under LAN TCP/IP setup change IP address to 192.168.1.1
(after this i'm losing my router home page i,e i can not access 192.168.0.1)
Starting IP address : 192.168.1.2 , Ending IP address : 192.168.1.254

After this i waited for like 15 sec scanned for WiFi connection in my tab (Nexus 7) and it obtained IP address and was able to access net. But morning when i tried to do the same thing, Tab is not obtaining IP address and i'm unable to connect to net. any solution for that ?

exactly i was getting IP adders on my tab as 192.168.137.2, so shall i set the IP address as 192.168.137.1 ("under LAN TCP/IP setup") for netgear router ? or i should't set anything at all in that option and just un-check "use Router as DHCP Server" ?

so that rage will be :
Starting IP address : 192.168.137.1 , Ending IP address : 192.168.137.254

will that work ?

No you can't use 192.168.137.1 you PC is using that. You PC is the router and the DHCP server. I would use 192.168.137.254 for the router and hope the PC never gets that high in addresses it is giving out. It does not matter what ip you configure for DHCP in the router you need to make sure the router is not acting as the dhcp server.

Remember ICS is using your PC as the router. The box you have that is called a router is a stupid switch with wireless radios on it in this configuration.
