A Daunting upgrade

I have a task that only the Tomshardware forums can solve. I recently bought an AMD 260X and an Antec 450W PSU for an upgrade. Not only did the GPU not fit, but the PSU didn't even have a PCIe power cord. So, after the refunds, I have $150 exactly to buy a new upgrade for my PC. I need a graphics card that is single-slot width, and a PSU that has a dedicated PCIe for $150 with shipping and WITHOUT rebates. But, other than that, the freedom is yours- I will ask, however that the power supply be at least 80+ certified.

More about : daunting upgrade

The cheapest 750 with that PSU runs $160, unfortunately. I was hoping to cash out on AMD's restarted Never Settle Forever program.

Where are you buying? The cards will run on any modern 300watt unit and do not need power from the PSU.

Wherever's cheapest, I use PCpArtPicker. I have to get a PSU because my Optiplex has only 280W >.<

Most likley you will not even find a single height card in that price range that requires a PSU power connector

HD7750 or GTX750 would probably run on the 280watt, system load is going to be less than 200watts.

Yes, but I would liek to have a PSU with a PCIe because I will eventually want to upgrade more.

I've heard that it's best not to risk it

What CPU is in your optiplex?

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2180. It'll bottleneck anything I get, I know

Now I'm thinking about the 250x. It doesn't seem that bad, and it's a massive upgrade over my 9500GT

Yes it is step above the HD7750.

I would trawl Ebay for both components. My old GTX 570 Classified just sold for $118, shipped--a pretty good deal for the performance you get. That's probably a bit out of your price range, since you also need a PSU, but it's worth looking around to see what's available. You should be able to get a pretty good deal on a PSU as well.

It's all kind of a waiting game though. You just have to hold out for the right auction.

Then I'm gonna save $30.
