Hi, I bought a backup laptop battery for my Lenovo G580 since I use it for college and it's essential for my studies. It's OEM brand new still in the wrap, and it's identical to my current battery so I'm not worried that it's fake. It's brand new, so to my understanding it shouldn't have any charge on it, unless they precharge them which I'm hoping you guys can tell me. I am however worried that if I don't use it in the new few months, will it get weaker? The battery that came with my laptop said 08/12 and the OEM says 04/12 which I assume is the manufacture dates. It's simply a backup battery just in case the one that came with my laptop died or something, but if and when that day comes, I don't want its performance to suffer.

Too long didn't read version:
1. Are brand new OEM Lenovo laptop batteries precharged before sold?
2. Its manufacture date is April 2012 and hasn't been used before and likely won't be for a while. So when I eventually use it, will it still hold the same charge it would have 2 years ago in 2012?

Thank you!

1) there should be a charge.
2) My suggestion would be to rotate your batteries using one and at the end of the day charging it up then swapping to the other battery.
