Hi Guys, I have recently just built my first PC, a Bitfenix Prodigy, I have Windows 8.1 as my OS heard lots of negative things but it seems to run very fast.

Anyway my question is if I want to purchase say Rainbow Vegas 2 on Steam and Resident Evil5 will I be able to run them in compatibility mode even though I'm using 8.1?

Sorry if I am dim and it's very straightforward I obviously just don't want to buy them and find out I cannot run it.

Many thanks in advance.

Those games should have no issue running on Windows 8.1 Only older games like Pre 2005-2001 will you have any issues.

I run Star Wars Jedi Outcast on my PC and with Windows 7 64bit with no issue that is like a game from 2001. Really if anything the issues you will have is if the game has issues running on 64 bit windows. If thats the case then there isnt much you can do except maybe dual booting any version of windows as long as its 32 bit.

Aaah well that's kind of a shame too as I wanted to buy some classics such as

Doom,
Quake
Far Cry
Half Life
Command and Conquer

But thanks for putting me straight man I really appreciate it, I just think some of the older games are much better than new ones as now it seems there is too much focus on social aspect and single player story mode they've just abolished but hey.

Well as far as i know the only one you may have issues with is C&C. I know I had issues running it even on XP but i think the biggest issue is it runs at either 640x480 or 800x600 i think. I can tell you the rest will work. Doom, Far Cry, Half life will work for sure. Well for the Far Cry make sure its the 64 bit version. Not sure if the 32 bit version will work but i don't see why not.

And what about GPU? you prefer NVidia or AMD?

I have the prodigy and was recommended to buy a 'blow back gpu' as the ones with fans will blow too much hot air around my case, but the blowback GPU'S are very expensive compared to the ones with visible fans.

My cpu is cooled with the H100i.

No my case is the Bitfenix Prodigy the mini ITX case, I've no GPU at the minute, but I'm trying to get the GTX 770 or the GTX760/670, i heard the new AMD cards tend to overheat and aren't that much better than the AMD cards they replaced.

My set up is:

Case > Bitfenix Prodigy
MOBO > Asus P8Z77-I-Deluxe Mini
CPU > I5 3570k
RAM > Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB
SSD > Crucial 120GB
HDD > WD Blue 1TB
Cooler > Corsair H100i
PSU > Corsair AX Fully Modular 600w
OS > Windows 8.1
Monitor > Benq GL2450

As far as GPU'S go I ain't a 'fanboy' i mean there's gonna be good cards from both green & red just people say oh AMD have bad drivers compared to NVidia but better prices etc...Iain't gonna get a Titan or anything (I wish) just something that won't bottleneck my system and allow decent, smooth frame rates, although i do plan on getting BF4 & Metro.
