can see portable hdd in dskmngmnt but wont let format

I have a 2 terabyte hdd western digital portable that disk management sees but only options available are help and change to dynamic disk. I want to format and partition naming each section for specific storage. Is it possible?

According to your description, there must be one or more partitions on your WD HDD. To create more partitions, you can right-click an existing partition and select "Shrink Volume" to generate some unallocated space. And then right-click on the unallocated to select "New Simple Volume". Do not change to dynamic disk.
