I have a HP compaq desktop, that I plugged a Zotac GT220 Synergy edition into. The computer monitor turns on, but I'm not getting the graphics card in the device manager, and instead, I have the onboard graphics, so instead of a gb of video memory, I have 18 mb or something like that. Anyone know whats going on? Thanks in advance.

Edit: I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64x installed.

You should make sure that the graphics card that you plugged in is
1) compatible with your computer
2) seated securely in the correct slot

If you're curious as to whether or not it's being detected, you could go into the BIOS and look for some option regarding what devices are detected on your system to be double sure.

do you have the monitor plugged into the motherboard or the graphics card?

I'm assuming you're still plugged into the motherboard... leave it there for now. you need to go into bios, and change the default video setting from onboard to PCI-E. then save/exit/reboot, should be outputting to the video card now, and now you can plug your monitor into the video card
