When you update the BIOS, are its settings reset to default?

I wished to update my mobo's BIOS but I'm afraid that, when I do it, its settings will automatically be reset to default.

Also, if it's not much trouble, how do you uptate your BIOS? :)) (This second question is not as important as the first one; I'll be happy with an answer to the first question only. Thank you very much! :)

1. Yes, probably.

2. You do it exactly how the manufacturer says to do it. No exceptions.

Unasked: You only update the BIOS if there is a real need to do so.
