Greetings,

I have a Asus Maximus VI Hero Mobo, i7 4770k in a Storm Scout case (if this would mather) and connected the hd audio connector for my front panel (not the ac'97 one) to the correct aafp connector on the mobo. I also installed the Realtek Audio Driver (6.0.1.7161) for Win 8.1, and UEFI settings for Front Panel Type is set to HD.

The problem i have is when i plug in my mic in my front panel (pink connector), it doesn't get recognized (not plugged in - in win playback devices) when i set the connector settings to HD Audio Front Panel in the Realtek HD Audio Manager (advanced settings).
My headphones however do get recognized in front panel, and when i plug in my mic in the back (pink connector) it works fine.

But when i set the connector settings to AC97 Front Panel (again in Realtek HD Audio Manager - advanced settings) all works fine, and mic gets recognized.

So what i wanna know is how can i fix this, and is there a disadvantage of using the ac97 front panel connector setting. Should i connect the ac97 connector to my mobo, and switch my uefi setting to ac97, or just keep it as it is?
