Can old dogs learn new tricks?
I am trying to connect my old Sinarback eMotion digital camera back that has a 6-pin FW400 firewire port to my new Macbook Pro 9.2 that has a 9-pin FW800 port that should not be a problem, as I did the same for years with my old Macbook that had a regular FW400 port and everything worked fine. But:
First problem I ran into with the FW400 end of the FW 800 1394b/400 9 6 cable I got was the FW400 end of the cable didn´t fit into the socket on the camera back; until I whittled some of the rubber off the side of the cable head. So that problem was solved.
The problem I now have is that the Sinar Captureshop program I am using to download and convert the photos from the camera keeps crashing (did not used to do with my old Macbook), even though it is meant to be compatible with the operating system of my new Macbook Pro.
So I would like to ask is it possible that this crashing of the program every time I try to download my photos could be caused by using the different type of firewire connection ie from FW400 6-pin at the camera end to FW800 9-pin at the computer end? Maybe the change from FW400 to FW800 is confusing the signal or something like that?
I ask this after reading the following on the Sinar website: "Sinarbacks with firewire 400 socket can be operated in Firewire 800 with third party adapters from companies like Belkin or Sonnet" (my emphasis). Maybe I need some kind of special adapter rather than just a cable?
More likely maybe Mavericks is not without its peculiarities when it comes to connectivity? Has anybody come across this type of connectivity problem with other devices when upgrading to this operating system? Guess I should post this last question on the Mac OS thread but better to keep it in this same post, right.
Maybe the cause of the crashing is more likely to be something else than the compatibility of the firewire connection of my old camera and the operating system of my new computer but I have got to the limit of imagining what that could be so ask this question in order to figure out if I am heading in the right direction or barking up the wrong tree?
