Yes, dual GTX 660s are worth it. But I believe your MB is only X16, x4 lanes when you add the 2nd card: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=...
If so, I would advise against adding a 2nd card. The 2nd slot at X4 lanes will drag down performance too much.

X16 slot @X4 does not support SLI so 2 x 660 is out!

I gather you've got a small case. Otherwise I'd recommend getting an ATX mobo.

what if i used those connectors that turn one x16 in to 2 x8

Not all the Z87 boards support SLI and you have one of the models that doesn't, so adding a 2nd 660 would not be worth it.

There is no such thing. You are probably thinking of the PCIe power connectors (cables). Not to be confused with the PCIe X16 slots.

ill explain better have you seen those boards with the x1 baks cut off so you can put full sized cards in them but it would run at x1

but you would have a little thing that are the x16 pins and you put in the full sized slot not the x4 and 2 ribbon connectors come out and there are 2 x16 slots running at x8

Do you have pictures of such a splitter? I don't think they exist, google couldn't find one either. But it still would fix the fact the motherboard is not capable of SLI. It only supports crossfire(requires amd video cards)

Can you fit an ATX motherboard in your case? What make and model case have you got?

If you really want to run 660 sli you need to get an ATX size Z87 mobo.

But if you need to get another case too, then its not worth it from a costing point of view. So then I'd recommend just getting one better graphics card. Buit you'll need a power supply that'll run either choice. So what PSU have you got - make and model?

Actually there are several matx z87 boards that support SLI.

Yes, pics please. I think I know what you are describing, but if the 2nd card is not in the #2 PCIe X16 slot, SLI/CF won't work.

Yes you can. Most matx boards have 4 pci-e slots which is plenty of room for SLI or Crossfire even with dual slot cards. I think you may have Matx and Mini ITX mixed up. Becasue with mini ITX board there will only be room for 1 pci-e port.
Here's a Z87 Matx board that supports SLI

Some of the smaller cases you can't fit 2 x graphics cards because they clash with other bits eg power supply. That's what I was thinking.

And usually you wouldn't by a matx mobo if you've got a mid- or full-tower.
