The CoolerMaster HAF922M mid-tower case comes with 3 case fans, and the MSI Z87-G45 motherboard has 3 system fan connectors. Perfect, right?
The problem is different connectors all around:
1) The motherboard system fan connectors are 4-pin connectors with a little piece of plastic up against some of the pins to make it idiot proof. It looks like pic 1 below.
2) The fan has a cable ending in a 3 pin connector (name??), which hooks into a 3-pin to Molex adapter (which hooks into the PSU). See pic 2 below.
Is there a way to connect the fan's 3-pin connector to the motherboard, so that the motherboard can (hopefully) control the fan speed as it does with the CPU fan?
I read online that the fan has to have PWM support, and that there are various adapters available, but I couldn't reach a clear answer.
