I am building a gaming rig, a pretty beastly one at that:) But I don't want to spend money on something I don't need. I know an i7 will not help for gaming now, but will it all anytime soon? I also just want to be able to multitask fast, so should I get an i7 for that reason? Here's my build---->

If I were you I'd wait until the new Devil's Canyon chips from intel are released.

Then grab a Z97 motheboard and one of the new i5's. They will most likely overclock much further due to the improved TIM.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Also bear in mind that the i7 is not an octa-core processor, it's a quad-core with hyper-threading. A core and a thread are not the same and software will utilise them in different ways.

If game developers wanted to utilise hyper-threading, they'd have done so by now. It's been around long enough.

Oh dang, good idea! They are almost here then. Should I also wait for nvidias 800 series as well you think?

I can't say, I don't know too much about them. :p Up to you. If they release around the same time as the new intel chips then I don't see why not.
