First time build, and it is 3 months old. I'm fifteen and I'm just getting into building computers. I have done more than my homework on understanding PC's and how they work. I am running an i5 4670k @ stock 3.4ghz, MSI Z87I Gaming AC motherboard, 16gb Corsair Vengeance Pro @1866, PNY GTX 650 1gb, 2 samsung 840 evos one 120gb and one 250gb, 750w Seasonic Platinum rated full modular power supply (got a crazy deal on newegg), Corsair H50 cpu cooler which keeps my cpu @ 35 degrees celcius at idol and about 50 under load, Asus DVD / CD reader and writer, all on windows 8.1. My first build attempt went flawlessly and has ran flawlessy for the past three months. The only issue is i have a led 230mm bitfenix fan in the front of my prodigy without power due to the lack of fan connectors on my mobo. Just the other day I ordered a Phobya 4-Pin to 6 x 3-Pin Fan Splitter from amazon and it came in today. I was using my computer when the mail man came along and i was very excited to get it in my PC. I put on my grounding strap, shut down my PC, and unplugged the power cable. Once open I plugged in my molex connector (been plugged in since the day of the build because I knew I would need it for this very purpose) to the fan splitter then the fan to the splitter. As I said earlier, the fan was led so I had a molex cable hooked up to that as well since the day of the build. I plugged the computer back in checked the connections and pressed the power button. The fans reved on the GPU, CPU cooler, and the PSU the "CLICK" and it all shut down. The power lasted for about 2 seconds, the power led flashes, the HDD light does not. Trying not to freak out I waited a few seconds switched the PSU on and off, unplugged and replugged in the wall and gave it another shot. No power just "CLICK". I then removed the molex to led connector that I mentioned earlier assuming that could be causing an issue. Did the same prepping process as before to hit the power button again and the fans reved as the did previously for about 2 seconds then "CLICK". Then I removed the fan and the fan splitter. CLICK. I then completely remove the molex cable from my PSU. Tried again and fans reved "CLICK". At this point I began to strip the computer to the bare minimum, anything not essential for the computer to function was removed ( CD drive, SSD without the OS could have removed both, GPU completely and unplugged all those cables that were used connect those to the PSU. Mobo, CPU, RAM, SSD, PSU are the only things connected. I tried again rev and "CLICK". Does anybody have a clue what happened. PC was running silky smooth until I plugged in this fan and fan splitter. I have no clue what happened. I am new to forums and I really don't want any smartass responses, I really need your help guys any suggestions? Did I due something wrong? THANKS

It has a seven year warranty, so thats good. Got it for 99 bucks on newegg. But that's beside the point, the power supply runs for for a few seconds and clicks, and it could very possibly be the issue. But could there also be a short? I dont have a psu tester unfortunately. I'll have to try and find somebody with a PSU that I can use to test on my rig.

Heard of it, not a 100% sure what it is, doesn't it trick the psu into thinking its connected to the Mobo? What is it used to test and how do I do it?

What do you mean by breadboard? And how do you clear the cmos when the pc is off? Ive hit the button once or twice already when the fans reved but other than that idk.

Alright. Breadboarding is taking everything apart, setting your motherboard on a piece of cardboard, with only 1 stick of RAM, your CPU, CPU Cooler, and PSU plugged into the motherboard. No cords attached from the case Just short the power switch jumper to start it. No GPU, or display or anything. Just see if it boots. It helps if you have the little speaker plugged in to listen to the beeps, or some new mobos have a digital dispay for error codes.

To clear CMOS, make sure your rig is powered off and unplug the power cord. Read your motherboard's owner's manual and find the CLR CMOS in the diagram. It will either be a switch, a jumper, or just a couple of spokes to short across. If it isn't there at all (really crappy mobos), then you will have to remove the battery.

Turned out to be my motherboard short after running it in to my local PC shop for some diagnostics. Thanks for the input though guys, my mobo is warranted so ill be sending it back into newegg and getting a new one.
