Sporting a 520w seasonic with 40 amps on a single 12v rail.
With a matx gigabyte am3+ board and FX 6300. Just want to be sure i wont need to send the card back >.< it does say 500 but i want to be sure. Also is the R9 280x an improvement over a single 6850

More about : 520 watt seasonic good 280x

I had a 520W Seasonic and loved it. Excellent quality! 520W is enough for an overclocked 6300 + 760, but I wouldn't run a 280x on 520W. (I upgraded my PSU cuz of the 280x)

The 280x is way beyond the 6850. Not really even in the same realm.

Yes it will work since you are looking at system loads around 400watts max on top of that it is a quality PSU! That is a very good GPU upgrade!

a normal r9-280 is like a 7950 when a r9-280x is like a 7970.

they are still pretty close some tweaks here and there while the 280x still being hte better card.

I muself had the asus 6850 and changed litle over a year ago to a 7970 and the difference is like night and day you cant even compare them so even if you get the normal 280 instead of the 280x you will see massive peformance and will be able to play all games on max settings 60+ fps on 1080p.

To be safe, I'd want a minimum of 550W for a 280x with overclocked fx-6300. 600-650W is the easy safe zone. The 280x is like the 7970 GHz edition. It consumes slightly more power than the 7970. That's why you'll notice people that have a 280x also have at least 600W PSUs.

Measured total system power consumption under 400watts http://www.anandtech.com/show/7400/the-radeon-r9-280x-r...
The thing is if you already have it it will work.
