Overclocking CPU brings major GPU issues

Hi everyone,

I've just upgraded to a 670 SLI setup and found that I was having serious issues with low FPS. Heaven 4.0 was showing 50% usage in the primary GPU, with FPS in the 30s and some audio popping/cracking. Games glitching and crashing. I upgraded my MB Bios and suddenly the issue was fixed, getting a Heaven 4.0 score of around 1600.

I realised that this was because flashing a new bios removed the OC on my CPU, when I returned to the pretty moderate over clock (4.2Ghz) again the performance in benchmarks and games dropped dramatically, sound issues returned etc.

I'm really keen to try and figure out whats happening as some CPU bound games (Hitman for example) don't play well at my stock clock speed of 3.5Ghz. Any pointers on how to figure out where the issue is would be much appreciated as the over clock is pretty mild for this board/CPU combo as far as I can tell.

All CPU/MB temps look normal (normally 27-30 degrees) due to a pretty grunty Megahalems cooler.

My first thought was the PSU but as far as I know it should be ok?

CPU: Intel i5 3570k
MB: ASUS P8Z77-V LK
PSU: Seasonic M12II 650W 80Plus Bronze
GPU: 2 x 2GB GTX 670 (ASUS and EVGA)

How are you overclocking? I found that by overclocking by changing my multiplier by 2 or 3 would cause a lot of problems with my graphics and sound. But if I overclock through core speed only I run into no issues.
